Terms & Condition(Tutors)

Terms & Conditions for Tutors

1. Agreement

The information in these Terms and Conditions is legally valid between you and the Center (which refers to Star Tutor HK Tutorial Angency).  Please make sure you totally understand and accept them before you register as a tutor and use our service. If you would like to clarify anything, please contact us immediately at startutorhk@gmail.com

2. Eligibility

You must fall into one the following types in order to be eligible. We apologize for any inconvenience this division strategy may cause.

A.  Tutors whose first language is English, or tutors who have native-like English proficiency and language exposure in English-speaking family/countries

B.  Tutors whose first language is Mandarin/Putonghua, or tutors who have native-like Mandarin/Putonghua proficiency and language exposure in Mandarin/Putonghua-speaking family/countries

C. Tutors whose first language is European language, or tutors who have native-like European language proficiency and language exposure in European language-speaking family/countries

D.  Tutors whose first language is Japanese/Korean, or tutors who have
native-like Japanese/Korean language proficiency and language exposure in Japanese-speaking/Korean-speaking family/countries

3.  Service Fee (Also known as Commission)

Service fee falls into one of the following options, which is clearly indicated in each tutorial case at  www.startutorhk.com/native-teacher.html

The Center charges a one-time service fee which is HKD$300. It is fully paid by tutors and we will directly collect it from clients upon completion of the 2nd week of lessons.

4. Cancellation of Assignment

Prior notice of 72 hours must be given to the Center if you decided to cancel the assignment which you have verbally promised to take up before the first lesson. Otherwise, we will charge an administrative fee $200.

5. Termination of Assignment

The minimum commitment period of an assignment is 2 weeks. If you terminate an assignment during the first 2 weeks, the Center will still charge you an one-time service fee which is HKD$300.

If a client terminates an assignment during the first month, you will only receive 50% of payment for all your service hours. However, if the reason for the client’s termination is because of your unprofessional practices as a tutor (e.g. often late, skip lessons without solid reasons, poor preparation and subject knowledge), the Center will still charge you an one-time service fee which is HK$300

6. Postponement  of Assignment

Lessons which are postponed during the first weeks will not affect the service fee. For example, for a month of 8 lessons, if a lesson was cancelled due to any reason (e.g. holiday, sickness, etc),the service fee will be still charged.

7. Tutor Responsibilities

A.  First impression matters. Smile, smart dressing and passionate attitude help.

B.  Present your highest qualification to the clients during your first lesson.

C.  Be punctual. Nice to be a bit earlier than scheduled. If you foresee that you are going to be more than 10 minutes late for a lesson, you should call them in time to inform and apologize.

D.  If you have to change or re-arrange a lesson, give the clients an early notice not less than 24 hours.

E.  Prepare for every lesson. Think of how you will structure the lesson, what are you going to say exactly and what tailor-made handouts should be made beforehand. Keep up with the latest syllabus. Clients know very well how much effort you have paid. This determines the pay increment.

F.  Focus on teaching. Do not spend much time talking about something irrelevant to the lesson, even you think they are something interesting. Think of how you can make the lesson interesting instead. Do not talk over phone with your friends or family during the lesson as well.

G.  Discuss the progress report with the clients on weekly basis. This makes your teaching look systematic.

H.  Do not skip lessons or even quit when clients’ examinations are coming . This will make you look very irresponsible

I.   If you are going through a topic with the student, and you see that the lesson time is complete, spend a few minutes to finish what you are doing. Don’t finish the lesson abruptly in mid-topic!

8. Confidentiality

All information you have provided with us will be treated with the greatest confidentiality. We will never disclose your information to any third party (e.g.your current employer).

9. Disputes

The Center does not make any guarantees to resolve the disputes between clients and tutors, though they are rare.  However, we are glad to offer our professional advice.

10. Disclaimer

The Center will not be held liable or responsible for civil proceedings and/or criminal prosecution on any acts of dishonesty, misconduct, and/or misdeeds on part of the tutors that may cause any inconveniences, disturbances or offences.

The Center reserves the right in its sole discretion to change the terms and conditions at anytime without notice.
